A Case Study for an Internal Condenser (Water Cooled) Air Conditioning Installation Within A Barristers Chambers in the City of London

When Cool You UK was approached to provide air conditioning for a barristers chambers within Temple, they had to find a solution that was permitted for use within their listed office building. The property was designed by Sir Edward Maufe and is situated in The Temples Conservation Area, that lies within the Ward of Farringdon Without, one of the oldest parts of central London.

We could offer a practical solution that met their listed building criteria – no outside condenser boxes. Like many similar commercial and domestic properties in London where we have installed our air conditioning systems, our internal condenser water cooled air conditioning units were ideal. This system contains everything within the building and does not require any holes in external walls.

Because of the age of the building, this was a very challenging installation which had to be completed in 5 days while other refurbishment work was also being undertaken. In fact, the client made a specific point about this after the project was completed. “Julian, yes I am very pleased. I want to extend my thanks on behalf of our Chambers to you and all your team, especially the two engineers who did an outstanding job despite the issues with our walls. They were very professional throughout the whole job”.

The two rooms were air-conditioned, the Main Clerks Room and the administrator’s Office. Two 3.8kw Artel systems were used, with high wall room units used in each office. The internal condensers were sited in the staff kitchen area.

For this project, we installed:

2 x 3.8kw wall-mounted room units
2 x 3.85kw water condensing units
