    This case study discusses the installation of water-cooled condensers to air condition a large three-bedroom duplex apartment in the historic Princess Park Manor development, located in the London Borough of Barnet. The building is listed as Grade II under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act for its architectural and historic significance.

    The apartment owners wanted air conditioning but couldn’t install a traditional external condenser box due to the building’s listed status. Cool You was approached for the project because of their expertise in air conditioning residential units in conservation areas.

    The only viable solution was to install internal condenser air conditioning systems that could be housed entirely within the apartment. Five water-cooled condensers were installed in the ceiling void of the boiler room. One was placed in a kitchen cupboard to supply energy-efficient, quiet, DC Inverter high wall units to three bedrooms: the kitchen, living room, and mezzanine.

    The installation took four days, during which the technical team connected the refrigerant pipework between the condensers and the room units using the roof space and cavity walls, concealing all the pipework. The installation caused minimal disruption to the existing decoration and the residents. All work was carried out in compliance with HVAC and rigorous F-Gas regulations.

    No planning permission was required to install this apartment’s fully internal air conditioning systems.

    For this project, we installed:
    4 x 3.5kw DC Inverter water cooled condensers
    1 x 5.3kw DC Inverter water cooled condenser
    1 x 7kw DC Inverter water cooled condenser

    These served:
    Living Room: 1 x 7kw (24,000 Btu) DC Inverter high wall unit
    Mezzanine: 1 x 3.5kw (12,000 Btu) DC Inverter high wall unit
    Kitchen: 1 x 3.5kw (12,000 Btu) DC Inverter high wall unit
    Master Bedroom: 1 x 5.3kw (18,000 Btu) DC Inverter high wall unit
    Bedrooms 2 and 3: 1 x 3.5kw (12,000 Btu DC Inverter high wall unit in each room
