A case study for the installation of a fully internal water-cooled AC system to air condition a retail unit in a prime shopping mall in Dublin

Australian Fun Fashion stationery retailer Smiggle was opening its first Irish store within a shopping centre in the heart of Dundrum town centre, close to Dublin. They needed their store to have air conditioning for the comfort of their customers and staff.

Our Eire Installation Partners, I.C.E Cooling, established that a conventional air conditioning system would not be appropriate due to planning constraints. An external condenser or holes to the outside were not possible. They, therefore, briefed us on their requirements.

The only solution available was our energy-efficient DC inverter water-cooled internal condenser air conditioning system that allows everything to be retained within the retail unit.

A water-cooled condenser was installed in the staff kitchen area and plumbed into the retail centre’s water loop system. This services an energy-efficient, quiet, DC Inverter 4-way ceiling cassette unit mounted at a high level in a central position within the retail area.

I.C.E’s F-Gas install engineers, supported by the Cool You technical team, could discretely connect the refrigerant pipework between the condenser and the cooling unit in the ceiling void, ensuring everything was hidden. Although on a tight schedule, there was no disruption to the main fit-out of this landmark new store and the installation was completed in one day just before the opening event, attended by the founder of Smiggle, who had flown in from Australia.

This is one of several light commercial air conditioning projects that Cool You have undertaken recently within retail units in London shopping centres, but the first in Dublin and Eire. No planning permission was required to fit our air conditioning systems on these premises.
