Is Air Conditioning an Apartment in a Listed Building on Gloucester Road possible?

Air conditioning in an apartment located within a listed building on Gloucester Road is indeed possible. This apartment, situated in a prominent period building at Stanhope Gardens and Gloucester Road intersection, faces the challenge of being near two busy and noisy roads. Despite its impressive double-aspect reception room that tends to get warm, the property’s status as a listed building poses certain restrictions.

The owner expressed a desire to install air conditioning but encountered obstacles. They couldn’t fit a traditional external condenser box in the Queensgate Conservation Area, known for its special architectural and historical significance. Additionally, drilling holes in the building’s external walls was not an option.

However, the client’s need to air-condition two bedrooms led to the discovery of a unique solution: an internal condenser air conditioning system. This innovative system stands out as one of the best available. It provides a complete air conditioning solution within the apartment while addressing the constraints imposed by its listed status.

Our skilled engineers make an Air Conditioning system in an Apartment in a Listed Building Possible!

We installed two water-cooled internal condensers in the kitchen to implement this solution. Furthermore, we fitted quiet, energy-efficient DC inverter high-wall units in both bedrooms, ensuring that comfort does not compromise environmental considerations.

Our skilled engineers efficiently connected the refrigerant pipework between the condensers and the room units. We minimised disruption by boxing in the pipework to match the existing décor. This ensured a seamless and unobtrusive installation that respected the integrity of the listed building.

Remarkably, no planning permission was required to install our air conditioning systems in this apartment. This streamlined process allowed the property owner to enjoy a stress-free and straightforward experience.

    For this project, we installed:

    2 x 3.5 kW DC Inverter water-cooled condensers

Main bedroom: 1 x 3.5 kW (12,000 BTU) DC Inverter high wall unit
Bedroom Two: 1 x 3.5 kW (12,000 BTU) DC Inverter high wall unit

This project exemplifies how innovative solutions can meet modern comfort needs while respecting historical architecture.
